The Tentative Golf Course Opening Day is Friday, April 12th
The golf course has come out of winter in great condition. Aside from the normal spring clean-up, we should be off to the races fairly quickly once we get into consistent weather. That said, this week does not help us for getting stuff done on the course other than today. With rain forecasted almost every day, this becomes a lost week for course cleanup/prep.
As you may or may not be aware, late last fall we did a drill ’n fill to our greens. This is a process where we drill down 12 inches into the greens on 7-inch spacing, then the holes are filled with sand. This will have an immediate impact on our greens drainage, and the first step in really firming up the surfaces of our greens. You will see where the holes are on the greens early this spring, but once we get the heat they will heal up very quickly. This will have very little impact on playability this spring.
With us opening a week or so earlier than normal, we will be starting with 9AM tee times. This is mostly still due to the chance of frost. With the sun angles still being as low as they are compared to the summer, shaded areas take that much longer to burn off. This also helps us on the maintenance side of things, as we currently have a smaller staff until summer students return.
Looking forward to seeing everyone back on the course!
